Overview

The goal of the 2023 Primary Care Update is to provide primary care providers with the latest in practice guidelines over a wide variety of frequently encountered topics and disease processes. Program participants will apply the knowledge learned to update current best practices in all primary care settings.

This 20 hour conference will be available virtually from November 1 - 30, 2023. During this time period, you can complete the conference's CME requirements at your own pace.

Proper Prescribing:

As a registered attendee, you will automatically be enrolled in the Proper Prescribing Livestream Webinar, presented by Natasha Bray, D.O. on November 14, 2023 at 12:00pm CST.

 
*In order to participate in the Proper Prescribing session, you must be registered for the 2023 Virtual Primary Care Update by 10:00am CST on November 14, 2023.

The livestream session meets the requirements for approval of one (1) hour of CME credit by the Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic Examiners. 


If you are unable to attend the livestream session, you can still earn your AOA Category 1-A credit for this session, but will not be eligible for proper prescribing credit.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply the most current guidelines when managing a variety of common conditions in primary care.
  2. Employ tools learned from the program to improve communication with and the care of patients; with a variety of concerns and medical conditions.
  3. Identify advances in the field of primary care to include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.
  4. Identify non-pharmacologic therapeutic options for patients that can be utilized in everyday practice, including OMM techniques and community-based resources.

Accreditation

AOA Credit

The Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. The Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine designates this program for a maximum of 20 AOA Category 1-A credit(s), and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Osteopathic Specialty Credits

This conference is eligible for Anesthesiology (AOBA), Dermatology (AOBD),  Internal Medicine (AOBIM), Obstetrics & Gynecology (AOBOG), Neurology & Psychiatry (AOBNP), Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (AOBNMM), Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology (AOBOO), Pediatrics (AOBP), and Preventive Medicine (AOBPM) specialty credits.

AAFP Credit

The AAFP has reviewed 2023 Virtual Primary Care Update Conference and deemed it acceptable for up to 20.00 Enduring Materials, Self-Study AAFP Prescribed credits. Term of Approval is from 11/01/2023 to 11/30/2023. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.

Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy

This program has been evaluated and approved by the Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy for a maximum of 15 hours of CE credit.

Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic Examiners (Osteopathic Physicians)

This program meets the requirements for approval of (1) hour of CME credit by the Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic Examiners

Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision (Allopathic Physicians and Physician Assistants)

This educational activity meets the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure & Supervision annual licensure renewal requirement for 1 hour of education in pain management or 1 hour of education in opioid use or addiction. 

Oklahoma Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (Veterinarians)

This program meets the requirements for approval of (1) hour of CME credit by the Oklahoma Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. 

MATE Act - DEA
The lectures, Proper Prescribing: The Opioid Epidemic,  Understanding Pain and its Management, and Let's Talk about Weed, Baby meet the new Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act requirements from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for training on substance use disorders. Providers planning to receive or renew their DEA registration can earn up to 3 hours towards their 8 hour MATE requirement by participating.
